GER Sri Lanka (GER SL) recently launched a cataract surgery initiative aimed at providing free surgeries to underprivileged individuals suffering from cataract-related blindness. Cataracts, a major cause of visual impairment, especially among the elderly, often go untreated due to the high cost of surgery. In response, GER SL partnered with local hospitals and ophthalmologists to offer these surgeries at no cost.
This initiative provided life-changing results for many, restoring sight and allowing individuals to regain independence and resume daily activities. The surgeries not only improved the quality of life for the beneficiaries but also supported families and communities by enabling those affected to work and contribute again.
GER SL ensured comprehensive care throughout the process, from pre-surgery consultations to post-operative follow-ups, ensuring successful recoveries. The initiative is a key part of GER SL’s broader mission to uplift marginalized communities through healthcare, education, and livelihood support.
By addressing preventable blindness, GER SL helps reduce poverty, empowering individuals to live fuller, more productive lives. The cataract surgery program stands as a testament to GER SL’s commitment to improving health outcomes and making a sustainable impact in Sri Lanka’s underserved communities.
